Food Processors Invests $635K in New Processing Center in Batiri

Food Processors Fiji Ltd is advancing its operations with the establishment of a new vegetable and root crop processing center in Batiri, Vanualevu.

With an investment of $635K, the new processing centre in Batiri is equipped with state-of-the-art blast and cold storage facilities. Chief Executive Officer Raneel Mudaliar said the development will enhance efficiency, preserve quality, and support sustainable agricultural growth, reinforcing the company’s commitment to delivering premium processed products.

“Our commitment to quality and sustainability is reflected in the rich farmland we cultivate, spanning over 400 acres, in which we grow a diverse range of fruits and vegetables, including Batiri oranges, cassava, duruka, and coconuts.

“A dedicated portion of our Batiri farmland is home to over 13,000 thriving citrus trees.

“With a skilled team of 19 employees supporting our operations, we actively source root crops from nearby communities, beginning with Batiri village, as we work to expand our network of local farmers.

“In addition to our farming initiatives, we are establishing a nursery for grafting orange seedlings, further strengthening our agricultural capabilities.

“Our passion for natural production extends beyond crops—we are also dedicated beekeepers, contributing to sustainable pollination and honey production.

“Enhancing our processing capabilities, we have invested in advanced equipment for our facility, ensuring that we efficiently handle agricultural produce from both our own farms and the hardworking farmers across Vanua Levu.

“Our ongoing efforts are driven by a commitment to fostering growth, innovation, and partnerships within Fiji’s agricultural industry.

“With the establish of this new facility, Food Processors Fiji will buy from the local farmers, process the produce in the factory and then export. This would create economic benefits, providing employment and market for local produce.

Mr Mudaliar said Food Processors Fiji Ltd works to ensure reliable access to fresher produce in Vanua Levu while maintaining the highest product quality.

He said to optimize cost efficiency and preserve freshness, all processing is conducted in the newly upgraded facility, preventing spoilage.

“Additionally, by-products will not be transported, streamlining operations and reinforcing our commitment to premium standards.

“This will increase our supply and create more sales while generating income for farmers.”

Food Processors Fiji Ltd is committed to optimize land utilization over the next two to three years through strategic agricultural development. This includes expanding cassava cultivation to enhance supply and sustainability, as well as replanting orange trees to ensure long-term productivity and quality. Mr Mudaliar said these initiatives align with the company’s dedication to efficient land management and superior crop yield.

“Additionally, we harvested 1,000 tons in sugarcane last year and are looking forward to harvesting 1,500 tons this year.

“Food Processors Fiji Ltd is also progressing its solar project into the grid impact phase following constructive discussions with Energy Fiji Limited (EFL).

“This milestone marks a key step toward sustainable energy integration, reinforcing our commitment to efficiency and environmental responsibility.”
