The Navua Football Association has secured the services of Maxwell Thaggard (fondly known as Babs Khan) as their interim coach.
This was after coach Saiyad Ali left for the United States due to personal commitments.
This was confirmed to SUNsports yesterday by Navua FA secretary Neel Singh.
“We are getting in Maxwell Thaggard who is the former Suva football coach, and I think he was also assisted Labasa and Lautoka as well,” he said.
Singh said the team has been training under the guidance of Thaggard since Tuesday as they prepare for Saturday’s Extra Premier League clash against Suva tomorrow at the Uprising Sports Centre in Pacific Harbour, Deuba.
“We hope for the best and Thaggard is one of the most experienced coaches in the country,” he said.
“We know that Saiyad Ai has left a gap here and Thaggard has to keep up the momentum with the team.”
Singh said Ali has been instrumental in the development of Navua football in the past few years.
“He got the team to the standard where we are today. We have a good mixture of players as well.
“Saiyad Ali has assured that he will be back, but no timeline has been given.”
Singh said their association has high expectations of Thaggard to produce the much-needed results.
“He (Thaggard) has won trophies with the Suva team. We expect him to do the same with Navua with the set of players we have,” he said.
“Ali has done a lot for Navua football, and we’d like to thank him for his dedication and time.”
