Eighty (80) swimmers have been selected to represent Fiji at the Australian Age and MC Age Championship in Brisbane, Australia after the conclusion of the Fiji Aquatics Age group Nationals at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre yesterday.

This was confirmed to SUNsports yesterday by Fiji Nationals Schools Swimming Association (FNSSA) president Salaseini Lele.

“This is the Long course Age group Nationals and we are fortunate that our nine clubs were able to participate in the two day championship,” she said.

“Clubs from all over Fiji came to meet for Nationals, those swimmers who qualified for our nationals long course Age group Championship.”

Lele indicated that most of the swimmers that qualified for Australia are school swimmers that represent their clubs in the Nationals long course Age group Championship.

“We are looking for faster times from this championship, it gives us a clear idea of what event where we should be expecting some reaching the finals because of their performance,” she said.

“I’ve noticed that the times in the championship are getting faster.”

Lele revealed that some swimmers have pulled out for the Brisbane Championship due to financial constraints.

“Some will pull out, we’re giving them a window to communicate with us but we’re taking the ones that qualified on the first and second position,” she said.

“For the 50s, it’s first, second and third place.”

Lele said they have a strict deadline to meet with Australia schools swimming Association in terms of the entries.

“We should close our entries after this championship,” she said.

“I just want to wish our club swimmers who are representing Fiji to the Palau games as some of them are also going to the Brisbane games.”

The Australian Age and MC Age Championships will be held in Brisbane at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre on July 27 to 31.
