Lami High School Under-17 is taking one match at a time as the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union competition kicks off.
Lami lost, 5-36, to Suva Grammar School in their opener at the Suva Grammar School grounds on Saturday.
Team manager Poasa Soqonakalou said there has been a lot of financial constraints faced with members of the team, however, it did not deter them from playing rugby.
“We know that we are looking set up battle, especially with a team like Suva Grammar, being the champion from last year,” he said.
“We expected it was going to be a tough match, certainly we will go back to the drawing board and we will work on our mistakes and also looking forward to our next few games.
“Certainly the Under-19 winning last year was an eye opener for the school. It has brought stakeholders, the old together, and this year, the really been motivated, by the results of last year.
“The challenge is there for us, and we’re just working hard to try and achieve what the U19 have done last year.”
Soqonakalou added that the postponement of the matches last week agev them more time to prepare.
“Our season expectation to for these boys to enjoy themselves and especially with the background that these boys come from, we try to expose themselves, so that they can at least be there for the scouts that are there to try and notice them.
“Like every team, we aim to compete and we aim to do well in the competition.
“We try and make do with whatever they we have and utilise whatever resource that is there with us.”
